Rowland Wedding – 25th Mar ’17

It was a beautiful fresh and sunny day (considering the awful weather we had had all week), on Saturday 25th March 2017 myself and Gail went to get a bridal party of 7 ready for Becky’s special day. We went to Becky’s friends beautiful house in the countryside of Henfield, with beautiful views around the house, what a gorgeous setting to be getting ready for your special day!

We arrived at 7am to give us enough time to get everyone ready. I started on Becky’s hair and did some pin-curls. On the trial Becky decided on an old classic Hollywood vintage look. Some nice volume and a clip to the side. I used my trusty Electric Head Jog titanium waving tongs and the Bumble & Bumble dry shampoo powder for some amazing lift. This look was perfect for Becky’s beautiful auburn and golden locks.

The atmosphere was very calm and all the ladies were a pleasure to be around.

My lovely friend (and hairdresser of 15 years) Gail came to lend a helping hand for this wedding and she did some of the bridesmaids hair. They all went for nice structured soft updo’s………and these ladies love a bit of volume!

Whilst the Bridesmaids were all getting into their gowns, Becky was in the chair getting her makeup done so it was a perfect opportunity to take out those pins and let the curls out. I decided not to comb through the curls fully as we were happy with how lovely and bouncy they were and we didn’t want much drop! Becky’s fringe had been blowdried and put in a roller so that just needed to be taken out and I backcombed just under the fringe to give that lift at the front and it was perfect!

The Glam squad worked very well on the morning with us alternating between hair and makeup. Makeup was by the amazing Elena Bedwell who is a freelance MUA in East Sussex, whilst everyone was getting papped by the brilliant Jason Williams, who was capturing some great shots of the morning. Both were a dream to work alongside.

A few last minute spritzes with some Bedhead Hard head hairspray on everybody’s hair and our job here was done!

Becky went and got her dress and veil on.

The Bride was ready!

Special Thankyou to Gail who helped by doing some of the Bridesmaids Hair on the day, you are amazing! x

To Becky & all of the Bridal Party- It was an absolute pleasure to meet you all, Thankyou for being so laid back and welcoming! x

Keep your curls

Hi Everyone!!

Today’s Blog is one that some of you lovely ladies have been badgering me to write up and I often get the question of, “What is your secret to keeping hair curly?”. Well, there is no secret- you just need to know how to prep your hair and that curls need time!……….Grab yourself a cuppa and prepare to be amazed, or not. These steps are so simple, it is all about the ‘cool down’.

First step is to prep your hair with mousse! I love the VO5 Plump it up mousse, it does the job and it smells amazing. This mousse also acts as a Heat Defence so it’s a bit of a double whammy!

spray some in the palm of your hands and rub through your hair roughly.

If you choose to add in more heat defence then I recommend the L’oreal heat defence spray, which you can get from most large supermarkets. You can never be too precious to your hair so make sure that if you are using hot hair tools that your tresses are protected.

Now for the styling! I start from the bottom with the curling so divide your hair into sections across your head. I use my Electric Head Jog titanium Gold waving iron (32mm) which you can get from Capital Hair and Beauty and it is on sale at the moment for £14.95 (ex Vat).  One by one curl………then this is the important bit- Roll your curls as you do them in the shape of the curl and pin them, I personally use the Hair Tools Double promg curl clips that I get from Capital Hair and Beauty. Then spray with Hairspray, preferably not a sticky one, I use the Vo5 Weather resistant Hairspray, again smells delicious  and doesn’t make the curls rock hard or tacky!  Do your makeup, have a glass of vino, sing a bit of karaoke in the mirror, then unpin them all! Treat them with a bit of love as you are taking them out, and you will have beautiful spiral curls.

Here is the fun bit! Take a wide toothed comb- I use an Andrew Barton one, I think it was only about £3 from Asda and gently brush through the curls. The curls are just absolutely stunning, I like to call them ‘Hollywood curls’. They are so versatile that they look amazing with vintage styles, boho styles and even just everyday effortless chic! Use a good hair spray just to gently spritz over them, for the very last spray I use BedHead HardHead spray- just to ensure these curls stay in all day or evening. Do not spray too much of this as it can be tacky, maybe get someone to spray it from a distance for you.

And that is it, simple ways to make curls stay in their shape, the key to this is the let them cool down……with a little help from some amazing hair products! 53c34ed9e12c548b706391e1a14d1c72

Williams Wedding – 12th Aug ’16

Hi Everyone!

I had the lovely honour of doing my good friend Sue’s hair for her wedding day to her fiancee Mark. Sue wanted a voluminous blow dry, her hair is quite thin and very straight so I knew we would have to use some of Bedhead’s Superstar blow dry lotion and it is amazing to make hair feel and look thick. I then used my Hair tog bristle thermo brushes and used a thin nozzle to get some oomph into it. For some added volume I put some velcro rollers in and started doing the beautiful bridesmaids hairs.

Poppy, Georgina and the super adorable Annabelle were an absolute dream to do hair on, it really didnt take long at all. Sue wanted a boho kind of look with waterfall braids for the girls, so I got to work and sprayed some heat protector on their hair and curled away using my Nikki Clarke hair straighteners and they really gave a lovely ringlet curl.

Annabelle has thin hair so we both agreed that a waterfall braid wouldn’t work very well so I gave her some lovely curls like her sisters and did a little vintage kind of twist and clipped it in place….how cute does she look? she was such a good girl having her hair done!

Then time to take Sue’s rollers out! They did give a lovely bounce to Sue’s hair, I then clipped her hair to the side and added her stunning hair clip, Sue actually makes these and I have to say, the quality is amazing.

Overall, the morning was very chilled and relaxed and it was such a pleasure to do all their hair do’s for them. Thankyou so much for letting me be a part of getting you all ready.

Congratulations Mr & Mrs Williams!

Winter Wedding

Hi Everyone!

I love weddings, who doesn’t?, but there is something about a winter wedding that makes me feel all fuzzy and warm inside! That being said, looking your best can take some extra tender love and care than that of summer weddings. The pesky cold, frosty weather can play havoc with your skin and hair, so you need to ensure you have the right products to keep hair looking amazing. Loose hair doesn’t always bode well when faced with wind, snow or rain, so opting for an up do would be your best bet!

Don’t be too drastic with decisions of what you want your hair like for your winter wedding. For example, if you know that your hair doesn’t hold a curl particularly well then perhaps steer away from that giving that the weather may be a bit blustery. Also, if you have thick curly hair and want to go for a more sleek hair style, just bare in mind that it could naturally frizz up throughout the day.

Up do’s are amazing for winter weddings as they are neatly put up into a style that is sure to behave itself on the day.

Ensure your style is set with an amazing hairspray to make sure it doesn’t budge throughout the day. I use BedHead’s Hard Head- only spray this on the end masterpiece!

Last but not least, winter is all about sparkle, why not add a bit of glitz to your up do with a diamonte slide or pearl clip or tiara, these look stunning on winter evenings, it will draw guests to your beautiful hair do!

Hair accessories are also great to have on hand for your hair trial so your stylist can incorporate that with the style you choose!

Brigden-McLean Wedding

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all enjoying this lovely weather change. I am a massive lover of Autumn, it has to be my favourite season, all the beautiful colours, cosy evenings and not to mention it is also the time I myself married my lovely husband Paul. So when I was contacted by Heather to do her hair for her big day, I jumped at the chance!

On the trial day I went to Heather’s home and we tried a range of lovely hairstyles where she decided she definitely didn’t want an updo. I also tried a few different styles on her beautiful daughter Ava, who was thoroughly enjoying being pampered like the little princess she is, and also 2 different styles on Heather’s step-mum. Heather decided to go for a lovely soft half up half down do which would really compliment the whole autumnal theme for the day.

On the morning of the 15th October 2016 I arrived at Heather’s home in Ifield along with Maid of honour and sister Claire, bridesmaid and best friend Holly and I got all set up to work my magic on these lovely ladies! On arrival Heather was extremely calm and collected, she really was a breath of fresh air to work with, and so were all of the ladies in the family, they totally put their trust in me and I felt confident in creating some beautiful hair styles.

To start, I pin curled all five heads of hair, this to me is so important to do-especially on somebody’s wedding day, we do not want them curls to fall out! In order to keep a curl in, they need pinning to cool down in that shape.

They all had time to cool and so as one was done, I had another in the chair ready to get their chosen styles, and the next would be in the chair for makeup which was being done by a makeup artist, it was like a little production line and it worked really well and we did great for time.

At 10am, the flowers arrived, these flowers were absolutely stunning and they absolutely set off all the hairstyles beautifully. I was really happy overall with how the morning went, we did really well for time…….now it was just time for the tiara and veil, then Heather could be on her way to marry her prince charming.

When i saw Heather in her wedding dress she looked absolutely stunning, you will all tell by the pictures but she was a picture perfect bride, her auburn hair, fresh flowers, makeup, they all tied in perfect with her autumnal wedding. I wish Heather and her family all the very best for the future, it was an absolute honour to have been included in getting you all ready for this special day.

Eyelash Extensions

Hello Lovelies!

Just a short blog on my eyelash extensions for all you ladies who have never had them done before as i have had lots of questions on them.  I qualified my eyelash extension course with BCBEAUTY on the 31st August 2016. This is a course that i decided to do which could tie in nicely with my business to offer some of you lovely brides and also for people who have special occasions coming up or you may just need some well deserved pampering!

There is an awful lot to eyelash extensions and i was very overwhelmed at how specialised this is and how much care and time goes into making your lashes stunning.

Patch tests are a MUST, these are very simple and take about a minute to do, i dab a bit of glue behind your ear 24-48 hours before you come to me for lashes. I test 2 glues, one which is a normal glue, and one which for people with more sensitive eyes.

On the day i prep your eyes up for the treatment, i use hydrogel eye pads which stick down your bottom lashes (also anti-wrinkle) Result!!! I then go ahead and use a primer on your lashes to help the glue and lash extensions bond nicely. The treatment takes roughly over 2 hours for me at the moment, it does take some time to make some time up, but the end result is totally worth it! I then use a lovely primer to put on the lashes when they are all done which just helps them last longer. Clients need to keep their eyes closed for the full amount of time until i am finished. At the end of the treatment i give you a brush to take away and give you your aftercare instructions.

I also keep client notes, which are great to tell me which glue i have used, which lashes, what sort of curl and thickness etc so that when you come back for infills you get the correct lashes applied.

Infills take approximately 40 mins to an hour to do.

I hope this has been of some help to any of you who had questions or have never had your lashes extended. Anything i didn’t cover then please do not hesitate to message me.

The shoot

Hi Everyone!

I have been super busy the past few weeks, family events, moving house, unpacking, cleaning, more unpacking and THIS, which i am so proud of, a photoshoot of my work……BUT, i couldn’t possibly take all the credit!

I needed some shots (and there will be lots more to come) that i could use for business cards, fliers etc but i was finding it so hard to find the time to fit something in. I had a trip to Liverpool to see family planned and what better chance would i get than to do some hair styling on two beauties- my sister Colleen and my cousin Maria, all shots taken in Maria’s lovely home.

I really loved getting the chance to pamper my sister as she has not long give birth to my beautiful niece and i think it is so important to make some time for yourself and i really enjoyed getting the chance to do that for her, being a mummy of 2 boys aswell, she always looks lovely anyway!

My cousin had literally just walked in from work when she got working on her makeup, she is a qualified makeup artist in Liverpool and i just love how her makeup looks so flawless all the time! Maria is getting married in November to her sweetheart Jonathan so this was great practice for when she gets pampered for her big day!

So, for these hairstyles i went for slightly more bridal looks which is what i love to do! ALWAYS, protect your hair, i use the L’Oreal heat protector spray from Tesco and because i was curling it i used mousse to help hold the curls in place. I went ahead in sections and used my Electric HeadJog Titanium 32mm waving iron, which gives the most gorgeous curls, i got mine from Capital Hair and Beauty. I then used my Hair Tools double prong curl clips to pin the curls until they had cooled down.

I then used BedHead’s Oh BeeHive matte dry shampoo to get some lift and then went ahead and pinned curls alternatively to my sisters head to give a lovely bridal/bridesmaid look. I then gave her a nice sweeping fringe to give a classy element to it.

For my cousin Maria’s hair we went for a slightly ‘undone’ hairstyle where i just worked with the curls and went ahead and pinned them in no particular order just giving a lovely look. Maria’s headpiece was something we used totally by accident, this was actually a broken necklace that we worked with the style and it looks amazing, a lot of people commented asking where the headpiece was from!

So that was my work done and the girls for being amazing and letting me loose on their hair, but none of this would have been possible without my very talented husband Paul who did the photography and who does ALL the photography for my website, he really listens to what sort of shots to take and captures them beautifully, not to mention his editing is superb and the girls and i were all so happy with the pictures! He has a Page on Facebook called PgPhotography if anybody would like to check out some more of his work.

I hope you are all enjoying the summer and i will be back with another blog next Sunday on my lovely friends wedding hair that i have the pleasure of doing.

My Top Products

Hi Everyone!

Today I will be sharing with you all my top favourite Hair Styling products! These are SO important to help you achieve the look you want whether it be a sleek or slightly undone style.  So, pay attention and take notes ladies and gents because these products are some of my holy grails to Hair styling and I use them not only on myself but on my clients too!

1. L’Oreal Elnett Satin Heat Styling Spray

Protecting your hair from heated tools is a MUST! This leaves hair feeling soft as satin (proof is in the name) and not only that it is flippin’ amazing for a voluminous blow dry leaving hair lovely and shiny whilst locking out flyaways and humidity. The cost of this doesn’t break the bank either, you can pick this up from Tesco for £6.

2. BedHead Tigi OH BEEHIVE

Oh Beehive is a matte dry shampoo and as far as dry shampoo’s go, this is the best (IMO)!

The super fine powder particles absorb excess oils that weigh hair down and this my friends is how you get that amazing volume or beehive look which i am a massive lover off! I think a bit of volume at the top of your head can set off a hairstyle and make you look a little more ‘done up’. It smells absolutely divine too! I get mine from Capital Hair and Beauty for £7.95 (ex VAT)

3. Tigi BedHead Hard Head hairspray.

If you want relentless hold and control then this is the hairspray for you…..seriously, your hairstyle is going nowhere once you spray this bad boy! It looks the part, it smells the part, dries instantly, one bit of advice though….do not spray it half way through a hair do, make sure you are happy with your creation and THEN spray it! I get mine from Capital Hair and Beauty for £6.95 (ex VAT)

4. Tigi BedHead Superstar

I know, I know, I am a massive lover of BedHead products!

This is a blowdry lotion to make your hair thick and massive, I love this stuff, my hair smells amazing after I have used this. Not only that but it gives control too! Put this on towel dried hair and blow dry until your heart is content!

5. HeadJog Titanium Gold Waving Iron

My fave curling product! These give the most perfect smooth healthy curls, i like to apply some mousse, then my L’Oreal heat protector spray, then using my waving iron I curl and then go ahead and follow the shape of the curl, wrap it up and pin with one of my pin curl clips (see picture). One massive tip for curls that will last is to let the curl cool down in it’s shape, then move forward by unclipping them all and lightly spraying over with hairspray. This is an amazing price for what it is too, it is on sale right now in Capital Hair and Beauty for £14.95 (ex VAT)

6. HeadJOG 112 Oval cushion brush

This brush is natural boar bristle and plastic pin and is superb for backcombing!! A lot of the time these brushes are used for hair extensions, but i’m a bit of a rebel and I actually found that this gave an amazing beehive and finish as it smooths it all down beautifully too, I love a bit of volume! I purchased mine from….wait for it, yes again the good old wholesalers Capital Hair and Beauty for a fantastic £5.25 (ex VAT)

7. HeadJog 204 Metal pin comb

This is fantastic to get the lovely shape of your beehive…..nobody wants a wonky beehive for their hairstyle! Once you have your desired amount of back combing, go ahead and pin in place and then take the pins end of the comb and go through the hair pulling and tugging to get the look, shape and volumity you want to go for! I got mine as a staple for my kit when I purchased it from Capital Hair and Beauty for £1.70 (ex VAT)

So, I hope you all enjoyed reading through just some of my favourite hair products that help me achieve amazing hair styles and help them stay put all day into the evening too! Have a little shop around if you don’t have a Capital card as a lot of places do great deals on these fabulous products!

…….Next blog up will be My Favourite Hair Care products

Ogden Wedding – 4th June 2016

I had the pleasure of meeting Vicky and her 2 sisters, 3 lovely down to earth ladies who were a dream to do hair on.

Vicky had her trial on the 22nd May where we discussed what she would want doing to her and her bridesmaid’s hair which were all beautiful styles which would really compliment their naturally thick curly hair.

I started with Vicky and came up with some lovely volume and some swirls, this was great and her beautiful hair piece really complimented the style…..1 trial down another 2 to go, BUT, Vicky loved it so much first time she didn’t want anymore trials, so onto the gorgeous bridesmaids!

We decided to do both the bridesmaids with the same look but incorporating some nice big plaits on one of them, which we all decided was the best look so they would all have plaits on the big day.

On Vicky’s big day i went to her father’s lovely cottage in worth and set everything up to start on all the bridesmaids and I had another head of hair to work my magic on, Vicky’s flower girl. I pinned all of their curls as they all had beautiful long thick hair and then started on the bride! Vicky’s hair was amazing to work on, her hair really did as it was told and took to the style amazingly. She had purchased some lovely diamante springs for me to put into her style which really set it off along with her beautiful headpiece.

Time to unpin all of the lovely curls on the bridesmaids and they are all looking stunning and ready to go!

The sun even made an appearance and the weather was amazing for the whole day!

Vicky sent me a really lovely review a few days later…..

“Thankyou so much for all our hairdos! Everyone commented on how nice all our hair was! I didn’t unpin my hair til the next day and it all stayed as perfect as when you left! Very very pleased! So thank you so much, you made me feel amazing on my wedding day!”
